Personal Injury – Settlements and Verdicts

Following are a few of the personal injury cases we’ve resolved for our clients recently.

$1,875,000.00 settlement during jury selection in a case against a grocery store chain where our client, a 49 year old woman, developed reflex sympathetic dystrophy in her foot following an injury to her ankle that occurred when a grocery store employee negligently caused a shopping cart to strike the client’s leg.*

$1,450,000.00 settlement at mediation for a 39 year old man was rear-ended in stop and go traffic on I-95 in Stratford, Connecticut.  The liability carrier, Allstate, defended the claim on the ground that the “minor impact” from behind did not cause the client’s disc herniation and subsequent surgery.

$1,100,000.00 verdict for emotional distress and violations of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act against a local funeral home for mishandling the remains of our client’s deceased husband.*

$450,000.00 arbitration award for a 34 year old man with a long history of back pain was involved in a relatively minor rear end collision while driving a truck.  As a result of this collision, the client developed a neurogenic bladder with episodes of incontinence.  Despite the complex medical history and difficult proof of such a private condition, the case resolved for an amount that represented fair compensation for his medical expenses and pain and suffering.

$425,000.00 arbitration award for a Greenwich man who sustained multiple fractures from a fall he sustained as a result of a defectively designed parking lot.

$300,000.00 settlement for a 45 year old woman who required neck surgery following a collision.  We recovered the liability policy limit of $100,000.00 from the negligent driver’s insurance carrier, and $200,000.00 from the negligent driver personally.

$140,000.00 settlement at mediation for a 55 year old woman who sustained a torn rotator cuff when she fell while visiting in a nursing home as a result of an employee’s failure to warn of recent floor mopping.

$100,000.00 policy limit settlement recovered for a 2 year old child mauled by a family friend’s dog where the attack resulted in no permanent visible scarring.
